There've been a lot of changes from Namco's Tekken 2 to Tekken 3 - some have to do with the characters, while some have to do with the engine itself. Below is a list of the more important strategy changes.

CHARACTERS
The returning characters from Tekken 2 (whether a direct offspring, a coma patient, etc.) are: Paul, Law, Nina, King, Lei, Yoshimitsu, Kuma, Jack, and Heihachi. These characters all have additions and a few changes in gameplay. Read about them in their half-page strategies. The new characters (Jin, Xiaoyu, Hwoarang, Bryan, Eddy, and Julia) are all excellent additions to the roster and include some of the now most powerful guys/gals in the game. Some of these may look familiar, but they are actually different from their predecessors. Also new to the home version of Tekken 3 are the characters Gon (a small dinosaur from a Japanese anime) and Doctor Boskonovich (the same doctor who has helped Yoshimitsu, Jack, and others in past games). Anna is also her own character in Tekken 3, instead of a palette swap for Nina. Not to mention the monster who is Ogre.

POWERING UP
By hitting all four buttons (two kicks for Doctor B.) you will appear to be going into an unblockable. Your hands will glow for three seconds, and you will cause blocking damage. Every hit takes off the same amount of damage no matter what the move. This action is not highly useful, but if your opponent is near dying and is simply too stupid to fall, this will help the process.

QUICK GET UP
This is the most important addition to Tekken. I repeat, this is the most important addition to Tekken. Yes, keeping opponents on the ground is the easiest and best way to win in Tekken, but there's nothing more annoying. Press LP and RP at the same time at the exact moment you hit the ground to immediately get up.

NEW MODES
There is a number of new modes in Tekken 3, such as force mode, beach ball mode, and theater mode. They're described in detail later in this guide.

In the following guide, you'll find:

MODES OF PLAY

Here is a rundown of the modes in Tekken 3. They are all competition-based, whether against the computer or another person.

TIME ATTACK
This mode is pretty much what it says. A clock is in the right-hand corner timing how long it takes you to go through a normal one-player game.

TEAM BATTLE
The ever-so-popular, up-to-eight-opponents team battle. One bad thing about this mode is the fact you can't choose Eddy eight times. This upset some cheap players.

PRACTICE MODE
You choose your character and which character you want to kick the crap out of. Automatically a menu pops up and gives you a ton of awesome options: the choice to train combos, fight free or against a CPU, and a lot of other cool stuff.

SURVIVAL MODE
This is the mode all the dorks out there love beyond anything. "I won 96 matches with King! Beat that!" Actually it is pretty cool to see how long you can last. If you win the one-round match, you get a small amount of life for the next round.

BALL MODE
You must beat the arcade mode with all the regular characters to open up ball mode, which seems kind of lame at first, but it's actually kind of fun. You and an opponent basically play volleyball/ping pong with a ball. You choose how much damage the ball will be capable of achieving. Here's the beef: The ball cannot hit the ground. If it does, the side the ball lands on will be hurt. 1) If you jab the ball, it will blink for a second and go to the other side for no damage. If you use special moves, however, each move charges the ball with more damage. Back and forth you hit the ball until one person gets hit by it. 2) The meter in the lower right/left is how much energy the ball has been charged with. If you fully charge the ball, it will cause a different amount of damage depending on which ball you chose: Beginner: Beach Ball - 60 percent, Expert: Gumball - 80 percent, or Grandmaster: Iron Ball - 100 percent.

You can also hit the other player. It doesn't do any actual damage, but it can keep your foe from hitting the ball back at you. Once you have unlocked ball mode, beat the little dinosaur Gon at it, and he will be yours to play as.

FORCE MODE
You must beat the arcade mode with all the regular characters to open up force mode, which is pretty boring. It's like Final Fight, but the enemies are just an annoyance. They have moves that allow them to curb cheapness from you such as Yoshi's Dashing Knee. However, it's not enough to make the game interesting. It's not easy by any means, especially toward the end. You probably won't run out of time, but you will have to make sure to pick up the food (your life-up) when you need it. This sounds obvious; however, in the heat of battle, you happen to run over the food when you already have a full meter.

The force mode has four stages, each of which you get full health for at the start. There are three different keys to obtain in this mode. Each time you complete all four stages, you get a key. After you get all three keys, the last person you fight will be Doctor Boskonovich. After defeating him, he will be a playable character in the game.

THE OFFICIAL STORY

Here's the storyline to Tekken 3, right from Namco.

"Power and greed are the root of all evil. Heihachi and Kazuya lock horns for the final time to decide who is the head of the Mishima Financial Empire. Tremendous wealth and power go to the winner... the loser, a burial in a volcanic crater.

Unsatisfied and a thirst yet for more, Heihachi sets his goals even higher. A plan for world peace falsely gains the confidence and support of leaders worldwide. In this time a baby is born....

Fifteen years later, a secret excavation by Heihachi's 'Tekken Forces' in Central American ruins unearths an unusual find. In their final communique with Heihachi they report the sighting of a mysterious 'God of Fighting.' Heihachi immediately heads to the scene aboard his private jet.

Upon arrival he finds only scattered corpses. The wheels in his head start to turn....'What kind of thing is responsible? Under my control, maybe I could control the world!'

Within weeks, strange disappearances occur throughout the world. Persons of strong soul, masters of the martial arts, and other derivative fighting disciplines are reported missing... with no knowledge of their whereabouts.

Jin Kazama is now a young man of fifteen years. Though he and his mother Jun live peacefully in the mountains, her intuition warns of impending danger. She tells him of a tremendous power seeking their lives. No longer a child and deserving of answers, Jun explains the story of his father, grandfather, and the legend of Tekken. Fearful of what lay ahead she tells Jin to go to Heihachi if anything happens to her.

Her intuition proves right on a cold, stormy night. The 'God of Fighting' comes to the mountains bringing a chilling, swirling wind. Still not a man and unpolished in his fighting skills, Jin is no match. Before losing consciousness he hears his mother yell 'run Jin, run far away.'

Bright morning sunlight awakens Jin. The house and its surrounding area is burned to the ground. Searching frantically for his mother, she is nowhere to be found. Following his mother's wishes, Jin seeks out Heihachi Mishima. Upon hearing of what happened, Heihachi reasons that the 'God of Fighting' thrives on the 'strong souls' of others... the souls of Tekken. Jin asks Heihachi to teach him how to defeat the 'God of Fighting.'

As a ploy to lure this god, Heihachi decides to one day organize 'The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3.' Such a gathering of strong souls would be too much for his archenemy to resist!

Jin enters his nineteenth year. Four years of tutelage under Heihachi Mishima have prepared him for his meeting with destiny. The tournament is about to begin...."

BASIC FIGHTING TACTICS

There are a lot of basics involved in the gameplay of Tekken 3: learning how to defend yourself, attack, and make it count, plus throwing and avoiding throws, among other things. Below are some general tips to help you learn what you need to know to defeat other players.

DEFENDING YOURSELF
It seems obvious, but the first thing you need to learn is how to block. You may not even need to block against inexperienced button mashers, but you will against people who know what they are doing. Basically, to learn blocking, you must have an understanding of how to attack. If you try to block too close, you will be thrown. If you try to block too far away, you let your opponent in on what you are going to do, and he can come up with another strategy to kick your ass. Try to learn the main power characters' attacks. They all have learnable patterns you can easily defend against. Jin, for example, has a lot of mix-ups; however, his best attacks hit high.

Another thing to know about blocking is the fact that you don't necessarily have to press a direction to block. As in Tekken 2, your character will auto-block any high attacks. Also, simply holding the Down button will block down. This is passive blocking and can be best used during strings or not-so-aggressive attacks. The other way to block is holding the Back or Down Back buttons. This is necessary for players constantly on top of you. Lastly, sidestepping is extremely useful (except against Eddy whom you cannot sidestep or Ogre who can sidestep better than anyone). Tap Up, Down, Forward, or Backward for quick steps that will help you avoid incoming attacks.

OFFENSIVE STRATEGY
Knowing when and how to hit your opponent are also key to winning in Tekken 2. One of the best ways to hit is when you see an opening. Not too obvious to the beginner, but it screams out to an experienced player. Any time your opponent misses with a powerful move, he is most likely open to attack. Up close, your opponent is open to throws, which is devastating, especially when playing certain characters (Jack, King, Jin, or Nina). Eddy is a prime example, albeit a bit of an exaggeration compared with most players. Eddy's moves are strong and unpredictable; however, they leave him open before and after being executed. His back is sometimes turned or he is standing up from lying on the ground and generally can just be smashed if he miscalculates his strategy.

Throwing is another huge part of Tekken. This previously taboo part of fighting games is a primary strategy for some and a useful tool for others. The key is not to get thrown. To escape a throw, you must first try to predict which throw your opponent is attempting. Watch the arm grab done by the enemy, and press the Punch button of whichever arm is sticking out farther. This must be done right before the throw animation starts. If it's a side throw, hit the Punch button of whatever side the opponent is throwing you from. Back throws cannot be escaped from. Look for more advanced strategies for Tekken 3 in the next couple of months.

YOSHIMITSU
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

STORY
The scientist Doctor Boskonovich once saved space ninja Yoshimitsu's life. Now he needs a favor: Yoshimitsu must enter the tournament, kill Ogre, and give his blood to the scientist so that the scientist can use it to resurrect his long-dead daughter.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Yoshimitsu is arguably pretty useless. "But he has awesome moves and unblockable combos and...." His moves and combos are easily predictable, and he's extremely slow.

HEALING
One of the coolest abilities Yoshi has is the ability to heal. Now you have the means to take your opponent's life and give it to yourself as well.

YOSHIMITSU'S RANGE
Yoshi's range is excellent, as he has moves that will do damage from anywhere. The problem is if you think his mid- to close-range attacks are slow... his long-range attacks are almost unbearable.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. Law
The fastest fighter in the game, Law can easily kick Yoshi's ass. Keep your distance and watch for quick combos.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Just don't let him heal. If he sits or turns his back, smash him, but watch for counters.

Vs. Hwoarang
Again, quick kick combos. You have to keep him away or he will inch you to death.

Vs. King
Same story here - keep the guy away from you. Try his new copter move to escape.

Vs. Xiaoyu
She has the best sidestepping game, therefore step around her and either wait or create an opening.

Vs. Paul
Paul is dangerous up close, more so than Yoshi, so stick to midrange attacks, but far is better.

Vs. Nina
Another inch-you-to-death player, Nina doesn't have much power, but she has speed.

Vs. Lei
Lei is weird. His stances make him unpredictable, and the damage he can offer is high.

Vs. Eddy
Avoid him at all costs. This guy can mess you from all ranges. Stick and move.

HWOARANG
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

As a student of Baek, Hwoarang promises to have what it takes to compete in this grueling tournament. Unique to his style of fighting is his ability to change from a righty to a lefty and back at will. Each stance has its own separate combination of attacks.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Hwoarang is no simple Baek (resident button jagger from Tekken 2). He has two different punch and kick stances, both of which offer a different set of moves. FYI: When a move or combo states "Left" or "Right," that is the stance you have to be in to complete that move or combo.

OFFENSIVE ATTACKS AND RANGE
Hwoarang is pretty scary up close. His kicks are fierce, fast, and hard to predict. Once you ground your opponent, just about any low kicks will keep him on the ground (cheap Tekken tactic #1).

DEFENSE
Not a very defensive player. Cheap shot and other mid to low attacks are good counters at close range. Flip stances and sidestep to avoid attacks and stay on the offensive.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. King
Feel him out. Do not attack first; King has multiple counters and throws waiting.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Not too hard to counter, just watch for his unblockables. Most of his attacks are high.

Vs. Law
You have to be fast and on the move. Don't try to button jag as Law's moves are too fast.

Vs. Nina
About equal in respect to damage. Keep some distance. His B + RK attack is a good counter move.

Vs. Xiaoyu
People who use her usually like punch combos of some kind. Avoid, then juggle for a combo.

Vs. Jin
Another reversal-crazy character, so don't jump out and attack right away. Use mid/low counter.

Vs. Lei
Pretty much an even fight, though Hwoarang has a small advantage in range, far range in particular.

Vs. Hwoarang
Block and counter. His combos are quick and powerful, so prepare to counter.

Vs. Paul
Watch his feet, most of his juggles start with a quick knee then a punch. Don't attack first.

Vs. Eddy
Low attacks work well since Eddy loves to be in his handstandstance. Unblockables work well too.

EDDY GORDO/TIGER
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

Eddy came home one day to find his father gunned down. With his last breath, Eddy's father told him about his plans to bring down a drug cartel, and that if the men from the cartel thought that Eddy knew anything, they would kill him. Eddy then pleaded guilty to murdering his father, so that he would be safe behind bars. Once there, he began to learn the dancing fighting style of Capoeira. After his release, he entered the tournament to test his skills and seek out his father's killers.

Meanwhile, the man known as Tiger is a mystery to all, save that he is king of the dance floor.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Eddy is a monster. His movements are very hard to predict.

HANDSTAND
Eddy's most useful tool by far. Many attacks can start from here. The problem is jagging on the buttons sometimes gives better results than planned attacks. Just mix up your plan of attack often; it will be enough to throw off less-experienced players.

EDDY'S RANGE
You want to stay in midrange when fighting as Eddy. He has some long-range attacks but virtually nothing close up. Stick to at least the edge of where Eddy's handstand kicks hit your opponent.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. King
Just keep moving. If King gets close, he'll put Eddy down in a heartbeat.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Pretty funky on his own. Just keep on top of him and keep hitting him.

Vs. Law
The only character who can even remotely keep up with Eddy. Avoid large kick combos.

Vs. Nina
She's a good fighter at any range. Watch for quick juggles, and avoid the handstand position.

Vs. Xiaoyu
She has some killer combos, but her range is nothing. Stick to mid/far range, and you'll win.

Vs. Jin
Eddy's range wins out. Stick to handstand kicks and combos to keep away.

Vs. Lei
A joke when paired with Eddy. Lei's range is weird, and he will succumb to constant barrage.

Vs. Hwoarang
Constantly move in and out against Hwoarang. Watch his quick kicks in short-range attacks.

Vs. Paul
Has enough juggles and knock-out-of-the-air moves to beat Eddy. Stick to far range.

Vs. Eddy
Will be difficult. Pretty much mimic the other guy's moves and try to predict and block.

PAUL PHOENIX
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

STORY
Now 46, Paul hopes to win the third Iron Fist Tournament. One more big win could finally put his name up there with the great fighters of the world. With his devastating combos and super-damaging smasher attack, Paul just might have what it takes.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Paul is still about the strongest there is, only now he has the ability to combo even more than before. His shoulder tackle is his best new move.

REVERSALS
The best place to employ reversals is in medium range. At this range most attacks are more predictable and easier to counter. Paul's reversal range is excellent.

PAUL'S RANGE
His best range is mid to close. This is the range where his Phoenix Smasher and other punches do the most damage. From far away, however, he has some of his most unpredictable moves (such as his triple hop kick combo).

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. Law
Law is the same story as Yoshi, just not quite as predictable. Block and slam or combo.

Vs. Jin
Against Jin, Paul is almost at a standstill. Flat-out power won't work. Try far-range attacks.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Yoshimitsu is easily beaten, especially if you know how to block his strings. Midrange is best.

Vs. Hwoarang
Hwoarang is another "learn-the-blocking-and-you-will-rule" character. Watch quick close-in combos.

Vs. King
Use Paul's smasher to keep King at bay, and then use reversals whenever possible.

Vs. Xiaoyu
Utilizing Xiaoyu's weakness in range, use the same technique you'd use for King: attack from afar.

Vs. Paul
Paul will be at an all-blocking war. You know the ten strings, so just be prepared to block.

Vs. Nina
Nina can't stand up to Paul's power. Simply go in close and beat her senseless.

Vs. Lei
Lei can avoid quite a few of Paul's attacks. His Drunken Monkey stance is the best against him.

Vs. Eddy
Eddy is not one to be messed with up close. As with King, use elbows and Phoenix to push.

NINA WILLIAMS
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

STORY
After being captured and put into cryostatis 15 years ago, Nina is awakened by the God of Fighting. He puts her under his control and orders her to enter the tournament and destroy Jin Kazama.

GENERAL STRATEGY
One of the best "all-around" characters in Tekken 3, Nina fits neat in either offensive or defensive strategies. Her combos are quick and easy, her arm breaks have been increased a bit, and she has some of the best reversals in the game.

THE ART OF ANNOYANCE
Nina is a lot like Xiaoyu in the respect that she can inch you enough to block then smash with either high or low attacks.

OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE RANGE
The only range to play Nina is close to very close. Her twin punch low attack is perfect (F, F HP) to get people with after jabbing high, and she has the same for low to high.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. Law
It's a pretty even fight here, except for in the kick department. Either avoid or stay on the offensive.

Vs. Jin
It's a weird combination here. Jin is fast, but players will probably just combo you. Counter, attack, then get out.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Fight Yoshi the same as anyone would. Stay in close range, and block high to avoid his slapping combos.

Vs. Hwoarang
His best range is your worst, from mid to far range. Close the gap and attack him head-on.

Vs. King
Nina may have some cool arm breaks, but who cares because King's better. Stay out of range.

Vs. Xiaoyu
Pretty simple, just play defensively. Keep to simple moves to perform short hitting combos and attacks.

Vs. Paul
Her toughest battle, he is nigh invincible in her best range up close. Defend then attack viciously.

Vs. Nina
She has enough of an array of moves for you to have a different game plan, so use it.

Vs. Lei
Get him on the ground (even though it's where he has his best attacks) and keep him there.

Vs. Eddy
Stay outside of the range of those flying legs. Take advantage of the time lapse after his moves, and attack.

FOREST LAW
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

STORY
Forest Law, the son of Marshal Law, has been convinced by his father's longtime friend Paul Phoenix to enter the third Iron Fist Tournament. Even though Forest knows his father would forbid him to fight competitively, he feels it necessary to prove himself. Marshal Law was away on business when his son ran off with Paul and is now quite angry.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Law was always one of the cheapest and easiest characters to learn. This is still true; however, his act is getting old. His moves and combos reek of Marshall in T1 & T2 and are a bit predictable. Rely on in-close combos and attacks and keeping opponents on the ground when you knock them down.

OFFENSIVE RANGE
Law's best range has always been up close, although he has plenty of long-range attacks as well. Just stick to his easy close-range combos.

KEEP YOUR OPPONENT ON THE GROUND
This is a prime area of strategy for Law, because he has the best array of pop-ups and low attacks - knock them down and keep them there.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. King
Play King as you normally would. Avoid close-range throw area attacks. Use your speed.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Yoshi just can't compete in the combo area. Don't let him start one though, as they end with unblockables.

Vs. Law
The key is to out-evade and out-combo your opponent. Sidestep and use his Dragon Whip/Tail.

Vs. Nina
A classic duking match. Try to anticipate her punch combos, counter and then combo her.

Vs. Xiaoyu
Law can probably take her down since Law's special kick combos can knock her out of her stances.

Vs. Jin
His is a game with more dominant punches opposite Law's kicking game. More range for Law.

Vs. Lei
This is a pretty defensive fight for Law, since Lei uses a lot of punches. Try to SS or fake step to counter his advances.

Vs. Hwoarang
Yet another defensive fight. He can slam you head-on. It's better if you hang back and counter him.

Vs. Paul
Since Law has such a fast evasion game, he can tackle this unstoppable foe. Fight at mid/far range.

Vs. Eddy
Learn his high and low advances. Look for openings right after he performs failed moves and pop him up.

LING XIAOYU
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

A distant relative of Tekken 2 sub-boss Wang, Ling loves amusement parks and hopes to own one someday. She stows away on a boat to travel to meet with Heihachi with the hope that he will give her the money to build her dream park. Learning of her fighting skill, he tells her to join the tournament and that if she wins, he will build her park.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Xiaoyu's speed and agility make her the fastest character in the game. Her moves are extremely hard to predict (even more so than Eddy's), therefore she can pop up for huge combos. (FYI: BT means back turned)

OFFENSIVE RANGE
Xiaoyu's best range is up close and personal - sweep distance. WS + RP is one of her best combo starters. Try this high attack and others, after forcing your opponent to block low several times.

KEEP YOUR OPPONENT ON THE GROUND
Ling's got some of the best moves for this. Try tapping Forward then holding Forward + LK or tapping Up + RK or RK,LK on a grounded opponent to keep him there.

VS. STRATEGIES

Vs. King
Ling can go toe-to-toe with King. Just play offensively or you'll get thrown.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
You can sidestep and counter just about everything Yoshi's got. As always, watch unblockables.

Vs. Law
When fighting Law, avoid or block his punch combos and WS + RP into some big combos.

Vs. Nina
Stay at mid to long range with Nina, as she's too good of a close-range fighter. Play defensively.

Vs. Xiaoyu
You want to out-juke the other Ling and go with counter attacks and low string combos on offense.

Vs. Jin
Most of his attacks take priority over Ling's, so watch for openings and mistakes to attack.

Vs. Lei
Lei won't stand much of a chance. Whenever he lies down, look at the opponent grounding rules above.

Vs. Hwoarang
Watch this guy's unblockables and short combos. Stay at midrange against him.

Vs. Paul
Keep your distance with Paul - his most damaging moves are up close.

Vs. Eddy
Once again, distance. Most of the "keep opponents grounded" moves work well against Eddy.

JIN KAZAMA
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

When Jin was 15, Ogre killed his mother, Tekken 2's Jun Kazama. He then learned the truth about his father (Tekken 2's boss character, Devil Kazuya) and began training with his grandfather Heihachi Mishima (the boss of the original Tekken). For four years he trained every day with the hope that one day he would get the opportunity to avenge his mother's death and destroy the Ogre. That day is here.

GENERAL STRATEGY
He may look like Kazuya, but he's quite a bit more. A near-perfect hybrid of his mother Jun and Kazuya, he has her speed and his massive damage. He also utilizes excellent counters and the largest array of strings in T3.

STRINGS
It's essential to practice strings when learning Jin. Up close you want a quick, easy-to-perform combo as opposed to mid or far range where anything goes - just don't leave yourself open to easy attacks.

OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE RANGE
Jin has an attack for every occasion. Try Twin Pistons for low attacks and some cool kick combos (the LK,RP,RK,LK starter is good) for mid to high attacks.

VS. STRATEGIES

Vs. Law
Tough because his combos are very easy to perform (damaging too!). Watch for his double flip kicks.

Vs. Jin
Remember the strings, and pull as many various combos as you can. Mix it up or it will be a standstill.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Jin can counter just about anything Yoshi can throw. Just stay close and watch for unblockables.

Vs. Hwoarang
Fight his speed with evasion and countering. Quite a few of his hits are mid to high.

Vs. King
Since Jin is mostly a close-in fighter, beware of damaging close-in attacks like the Flicker Kicks.

Vs. Xiaoyu
Block often. Ling fools people into blocking low then smashes them, so block high. Don't let her turn her back.

Vs. Paul
Either play defensively or never let up. If you let him hit, he has devastating combos, so stay on him.

Vs. Nina
Even though Jin is good up close, Nina is better, so stay back. When winning, go in for the kill.

Vs. Lei
Lei is a joke against Jin. While he's changing poses, pound him. Watch for his Tekken 2 high/low combos.

Vs. Eddy
No choice but to play defensively. Jin has a hard time blocking low, so watch out for Mr. Handstand.

LEI WULONG
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

Being the international "Super Cop" that he is, Lei has been investigating the disappearances of some of the fighters believed to have been attacked by the Ogre. During his queries, Heihachi mysteriously asks Lei to enter the tournament. Lei believes he can win, mostly because he has more than one style! Each style, such as the Dragon or Drunken Monkey, has its own specific moves and combos to catch his opponents off guard.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Lei is one of the most annoying characters in T3. Some of his best moves are performed on the ground where he can evade attacks. He also has five stances to change into, but unfortunately one hit takes him out of them.

ANIMAL STANCES
Lei's unlike any other character because he can change his entire fighting style with one hit of the buttons. Use the Drunken Master for big damage and the Cannonball move to avoid throws.

OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE RANGE
His best offensive range is mid or sweep range. He has excellent punch and kick combos that all hit at this range. His best defense is one of avoidance. Sidestep then attack.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. Law
Law shouldn't bea problem, just stick to quick combos and don't leave yourself open.

Vs. Jin
Almost an even boxing match, just watch his power. It's probably a good idea to stay at mid/far range.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
When fighting Yoshi, use play-dead techniques and switch stances to add confusion.

Vs. Hwoarang
Most people will attack from the Left Flamingo Stance, so watch mid to low attacks. Counter and smash!

Vs. King
Lei can keep King on the ground with combos and rush-in attacks, so do it!

Vs. Xiaoyu
You have to watch her because of her ability to block mid to high attacks, then quick attacks.

Vs. Paul
This one's tough - you'll have to play defensively. Try playing-dead tactics, as most of Paul's attacks don't hit the ground.

Vs. Nina
Don't turn your back on her, she can beat you up quick. She'll mix up high and low; try to block.

Vs. Lei
Once again, your fighting styles will be slightly different. Try to mix up attacks.

Vs. Eddy
This is a tough fight because Eddy can easily hit both lying and standing victims. Stay at mid/far range.

KING
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

The King of Tekken 3 is actually the second King, an orphan who grew up idolizing the original King, who was tragically murdered by Ogre. Trained by Armor King (the original King's arch rival), King has skills equal to his mentor's. With his talent he hopes to destroy Ogre.

GENERAL STRATEGY
King makes Zangief look like a wuss with his array of grapple moves. He can change his throws so much you never know what's coming. His weakness is his lame array of offensive moves and the fact he's slow as an ox.

OFFENSIVE RANGE
King's best offensive range is close of course, where you can quickly throw or get a power hit in. One of his offensive attacks, the Konvict Kick, does counter almost everything, and his tackles are good for that as well.

THROWS
No longer just a cheap device for winning, King's throws have improved immensely. In T2 he had only a few links; now, however, he can link just about any of his throws. He also has ground throws. There is a way to break each of these throws, so don't be predictable.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. King
Try to do the opposite of your opponent - if he throws knock him with a power hit.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Yoshi is way weak against King. Don't let him get a single slow attack off - stay on top of him.

Vs. Law
Forget evading for the most part, Law can attack from any angle. Let him come to you and counter.

Vs. Nina
Nina is best up close, but not nearly as good as you. Let her try combos, then evade or counter.

Vs. Xiaoyu
One of the few that force King to be defensive. She'll try dodging a lot, so try side kick and others.

Vs. Jin
He will attempt to make this a boxing match, but stay out of range, then jump in and throw or attack.

Vs. Lei
Try mid/far range. His attacks won't quite hit you, and you can quickly jump in to counter or chain throw.

Vs. Hwoarang
Once again, stick to mid/far range. Most of his combos will miss, allowing you to get in there.

Vs. Paul
Mid/far range is still good, but Paul can still hit you, so try heel slams and chain throws against his Phoenix.

Vs. Eddy
More than the rest, stay out of his way. Don't bother to throw him, stick to kicking him out of stances.

GUN JACK
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

The young girl whom the Russian military robot Jack2 saved 15 years ago has grown up. She has worked since to bring back the soul who sacrificed himself for her, making some improvements along the way.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Gun Jack is unfortunately not much different from the past Jacks. He has moves from Jack, P-Jack, and a couple from Ganryu. He is harder to juggle because of his size, and he takes less damage. He obviously lacks speed, and his large size leaves him more open to combos.

OFFENSIVE STRATEGY
You would think that with his power, heavy hit would be the strategy. The trick is to make every hit count, and you're more likely to hit with short easy combos. Switch between high/low attacks to confuse. Also use his wide array of throws at close range.

DEFENSE
Keep opponents away! At close range he simply doesn't have the speed to compete, he has massive mid/far-range attacks and counter with dash punches.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. King
Your array of throws is nothing to King. Use simple low punches to push him back.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
It doesn't pay to play defensively against Yoshi's unblockables, so take the fight to him.

Vs. Law
Against Law, however, you must play defensively. If he punch-combos in close, throw him; do the same with his kicks.

Vs. Nina
Hang back against this close-range foe. Try Cut Saw if you think she will attack.

Vs. Xiaoyu
Her speed really screws up Jack. Keep to midrange to avoid her combos. Look for openings after moves.

Vs. Jin
Again, stay back. He has immense speed with high/low mix-ups. Break him out of strings with low punches.

Vs. Lei
You can stay on the offensive if you keep on him or keep him on the ground. Otherwise, watch for stances to break.

Vs. Hwoarang
If you know him, block his mid/high-kick combos and throw him. From far, dash-punch or try to combo.

Vs. Paul
Yet again, a defensive fight. Watch for his Phoenix punches, stay out of range, and counter with power.

Vs. Eddy
Jack will have a hard time because he has few low attacks. A close low punch will help knock Eddy out of stances.

KUMA/PANDA
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

STORY
The Kuma of Tekken 3 is actually the cub of the Heihachi Mishima-trained kung fu fighting bear of the same name. Brought up and taught in the ways of combat by Paul Phoenix, the new Kuma sports his spiked bracelet, red bandana, and one of his victory poses.

Meanwhile, Panda is the pet bear of Tekken fighter Ling Xiaoyu and wears a pink bracelet that matches Ling's costume. Panda plays exactly like Kuma.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Kuma's strengths are his power and range. He also can't be tackled or thrown low because of his size. However, his size and his almost unbearable (ahem) lack of speed mixed with his small legs leave him vulnerable to ground attacks and unable to connect with a lot of kicks. Also, no ten-hit combo (sob!).

OFFENSIVE RANGE
He has many attacks up close, as well as farther away, but far away is not a good idea against faster characters that can dance all around him. Try the G-Clef Cannon or dashing forward fist slams.

DEFENSIVE RANGE
His Double Claw and other offensive powerhouses make for good counters in the mid/far range. Try to make the first hit a G-Clef - the other hits are too slow.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. Law
Mostly block high, and let him come to you so you can counter and smash or just throw him.

Vs. Jin
One of Kuma's hardest opponents, Jin has really good range. Try to push him back or counter up close and throw.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
This is one of the easiest opponents; however, it is hard for Kuma to avoid unblockables, so watch combos.

Vs. Hwoarang
Mid/far is a good range, try SS'ing to avoid kick combos. Batter him, then follow with Deadly Claw and combos.

Vs. King
You don't have to be scared of King because he'll have a hard time throwing. Play defensively.

Vs. Xiaoyu
Xiaoyu is tough because she can go high/low so fast. If she tries stances, dash forward punches work well.

Vs. Paul
Always a fun fight, if you can handle it. Up close you can cause the most damage, but far range is safer because you can avoid Paul's strong hits.

Vs. Nina
Nina can also quickly combo you into oblivion. Stay mid/far, and when she advances, attack.

Vs. Lei
You can avoid a lot of Kuma's advances, so you'll have to rely on surprise dash attacks and throws.

Vs. Eddy
You'll have to be patient and wait for openings. Double Hammer and Claw are good for knocking Eddy out of stances.

ANNA WILLIAMS
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

Anna has been on cryonic ice for the last 15 years along with her sister, Nina.Doctor Will she save her sister from carrying out orders from Ogre to kill Jin Kazama, or will she destroy her?

GENERAL STRATEGY
Anna is a lot like Nina. Her range and moves greatly mimic her sister's. However, she is missing arm breaks and other chain throws, which have been replaced by more offensive attacks.

OFFENSIVE RANGE
Mid to close range is the best range for Anna - same as Nina. Anna does have better capabilities from farther range due to some new moves, but the Dragon Tail attacks will help from any range. She also has an extra unblockable.

DEFENSIVE STRATEGY
Anna has reversals the same as her sister, but she also has some really cool offensive counter moves as well, Dragon Tail being one of them.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. Law
Pretty even fight here, even in the kick department. Fight very offensively or defensively.

Vs. Jin
This is a defensive fight. Stay out of close range and try to jump in for quick combos or a Tail move.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Avoid unblockables. Close in works well here. Triple slap him then hit him with Anna's bomb or a long combo.

Vs. Hwoarang
Not a good offensive close-up fight. Stick to far away or learn his attacks and start reversing.

Vs. King
Anna may have some cool arm breaks, but she'll lose this battle. Stay out of his range.

Vs. Xiaoyu
Like Nina, just play defensively. Keep it simple to perform short-hitting combos and attacks.

Vs. Paul
This is her toughest battle, he is nigh invincible in her best range, up close. Defend then attack viciously.

Vs. Nina
Forget the arm breaks against her sister. Stick to her Tail up close or a quick combo.

Vs. Lei
You can really keep his face in the dirt with Anna. Look for funky stances, use reversals, then stay on him.

Vs. Eddy
Stay outside of the range of those flying legs. Watch the time lapse after Eddy's moves and use Anna's Tail or bomb.

HEIHACHI MISHIMA
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

Heihachi announces the latest Iron Fist Tournament to lure in Ogre, who feeds on strong souls. He hopes to find a way to control the being after it destroys his grandson, Jin Kazama, who has been showing the beginnings of the strange and frightening power his father possessed.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Heihachi's power is amazing. He's a mix of past Kazuyas and even a bit of Paul. Not only that, but he performs some of their moves better (faster/more powerful) than they do. No reversals, but who cares - this guy rocks!

COMBO CRAZY
Heihachi has the best combos in the business. Because of this, his best range is up close while performing them. He also has a new-and-improved Demon Breath, which takes priority over almost anything in the game. He's really good just about anywhere.

DEFENSE STRATEGY
Demon Breath is, once again, a great new move he can counter with. His flash punch combo also has priority over most other moves and is good to counter with. He can also evade (dash back) well.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. King
Heihachi is powerful, but King can still throw him, so stick to mid/far range.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Not a contest, Heihachi's Demon Breath can counter anything he has, except the ever-so-slow unblockables.

Vs. Law
Play him as normal and wait for his flip kicks and punches, and then kick the crap out of him.

Vs. Nina
Keep her out of your face. She is nigh useless mid/far range, especially vs. Heihachi.

Vs. Jin
Heihachi is Jin (minus reversals) but way, way better. Just watch for jumping kick combos as well as his strings.

Vs. Lei
Heihachi wins. Just stay on top of him, let him play dead, and slam him with low attacks to keep him dead.

Vs. Hwoarang
Not too hard a fight, especially if you know Hwoarang's combos. Look for an opening, then kill.

Vs. Paul
Paul is a decent match. Watch for overhead punches as well as low pop-ups. Don't let yourself juggle.

Vs. Eddy
Not too hard a fight for Heihachi. Just sit back out of range of Eddy's strings, then leap in.

BRYAN FURY
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

Bryan Fury was reanimated and given cybernetic enhancements by the mysterious Doctor Abel, who has sent him on a mission to steal data from his rival, Doctor Boskonovich. In his former existence, Fury was on the same police force as Lei Wulong, who had discovered his ties to organized crime.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Bryan is probably the most powerful non-combo character in the game. He is comparable to Bruce in T2, but with more high/low mix-ups and the worst (all high hits) ten-string in the game.

OFFENSIVE RANGE
Because of his Mach Breaker and other heavy-hitting punch combos, mid/far range is about the best to fight with. If your opponent misses with any attack, use these punches to knock him out.

DEFENSE STRATEGY
Fury's not much of a defensive character, but he can counter. His worst range is long by far. He has nothing. In midrange he does have a couple of knee and elbow combos that work well against incoming moves, but the best thing to do is not let enemies attack.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. King
Work sort of defensively since Bryan's combos will advance you into throw range.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
This is not a contest, as Bryan's way faster and can simply stop Yoshi's advances. As always, watch unblockables.

Vs. Law
Law is a good fight. Watch for his flip kicks to leave him wide open to mid/low attacks.

Vs. Nina
Another good fight. Nina's good combos close in will force you to fight at midrange or farther.

Vs. Xiaoyu
Just about a straight-up fight. Try the flying heel kick to knock her out of stances.

Vs. Jin
Yet another pretty even fight, except Bryan has the advantage with more short easy combos.

Vs. Lei
Bryan can smash Lei out of just about anything he does. Watch his Drunken Monkey attacks.

Vs. Hwoarang
His combos are better than Bryan's, so stay outside of midrange. Go for larger combos if possible.

Vs. Paul
Paul has heavy-duty mid and close punches, but so do you. You can fight head-on if you know Paul's attacks.

Vs. Eddy
This fight's actually not too hard. Eddy's moves are slow at first and they leave him open. Use Bryan's special.

JULIA CHANG
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

The adopted daughter of Native American fighter Michelle Chang, Julia was brought up learning how to protect her tribe and homeland. She must now track down Heihachi to find his connection with Michelle's strange disappearance.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Julia is actually kind of unique in Tekken 3, mostly due to no Michelle or Wang in this game. She has a lot of quick hits that can annoy opponents, and she then has a few heavier moves to slam them.

OFFENSIVE RANGE
Midrange is the best for Julia since a lot of her moves advance her forward. Her hop kick is used for pop-ups, and you can add some high/low mix-ups to confuse your opponent.

DEFENSIVE STRATEGY
Julia's not a very defensive player. She has a few low punch combos that can keep opponents at bay, while keeping opponents on the ground when they fall.

VS. STRATEGIES
Vs. Law
A very defensive fight since Law's attacks are so quick and devastating. Try midrange with your own combos.

Vs. Jin
An easier fight, since the ranges are so different. His is close and hers is not. Try jumping-in combos.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Yoshi is a tough fight because of his distance-crossing moves, plus his attacks are mostly high.

Vs. Hwoarang
Watch for short-range kick combos as always, and mix up low attacks with some high.

Vs. King
Not a tough fight as long as you stay out of throw range. Watch his mid/low most damaging moves.

Vs. Xiaoyu
Keep her from getting on any kind of offensive roll. Use punch slams to knock Ling out.

Vs. Paul
Not an impossible foe, but you must be defensive and at mid/far range. Watch for openings.

Vs. Nina
Nina will try to get you with high/low mix-ups. She has low attacks that beat yours, so watch low.

Vs. Lei
Lei is not that tough of a fight. Stay at mid/close range and use the cannon (and other punch) combos to win.

Vs. Eddy
Eddy has priority over most of Julia's moves. Try inching his life away from far range with kicks.

MOKUJIN
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

Mokujin is a practice dummy that came to life when Ogre recently awoke. He is currently taking the first steps towards self-identity by mimicking the moves of a different fighter each round. Perhaps someday he will incorporate all styles into one, which would make him a force to be reckoned with.

GENERAL STRATEGY
He can mimic anyone in the game except Ogre. However, his attacks do not quite work so well for some people. He does not increase in speed or agility when he mimics, nor does his reach increase. Even so, it is a good show-off move in a fight to choose this character.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN A FIGHT
Mokujin is slower, his legs are shorter, and as stated before, his speed and range don't increase when he mimics a style. This is for the most part unnoticeable to the average player. You do have every move and combo (not to mention a sword, in one alien's case). Advanced players will have to make minor adjustments depending on what character they are using. He is not as fast as Law, nor is his reach quite as good as King's or Eddy's. Make range adjustments by double sidestepping and getting in closer when attacking.

GON
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

No one knows why the little dinosaur known as Gon has entered the Iron Fist Tournament. Perhaps he became tired of being known as simply the toughest animal in the forest and wanted to gain the title of toughest in the world.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Gon is not even a realistic fighter. He has some cute little tail moves, and he's the first normal character to have a "projectile." If you seriously want to fight with him, try to stay on your opponent. Gon does not only jump, he rolls around on the ground when the D-pad is tapped up and down (holding will result in jumping).

WHAT TO EXPECT IN A FIGHT
Gon does have a couple decent moves. His F, F + (LP + RK) roll, Tap D + (LP + RK) fire projectile, and Hold D + (LP + RK) play-dead position all set up for good damage.

OFFENSIVE STRATEGY
Gon's range for the most part is a joke. Yes he does have that projectile for mid/far range. Other than that, you must be in sweep range to do any damage. Tapping LP repeatedly will start his infinity punches, and this does pretty decent damage on an unsuspecting opponent. It is almost impossible to juggle with Gon, because of his lack of speed. Also use his tail - it's his best weapon.

DEFENSIVE STRATEGY
His UF + RK at close range is a good pop-up for offense or a getting-them-out-of-your-face defense. He does not have reversals, so try to avoid a knock-down, dragged-out fight.

VS. STRATEGY

Vs. Law
Taking the mighty Forest Law down with a cute orange dinosaur is much easier than one might think. Gon has two effective ranges: far and close. Shoot fire from a distance, then charge in and attack from point-blank range.

Vs. Hwoarang
This fight is almost the same as the Forest Law matchup, the only difference being that more emphasis should be placed on shooting fire from a distance since Hwoarang has better ground attacks.

Vs. Eddy
Gon can tear Eddy up. Stay away and shoot fire at the capoira king. A human opponent will grow anxious and rush in for an attack. Simply execute the dino drill, then start a series of kicks while your opponent lies helplessly on the ground. A computer opponent on higher difficulties will sidestep Gon's fire attacks. When this happens, let the computer get closer, then back off when the computer starts Eddy's break-dancing action, and then shoot a fireball at the dancin' fool.

Vs. Heihachi
Heihachi has a few attacks that pose a threat to our short friend. However, if you can use fire attacks from a distance and can sidestep Heihachi's attacks and then counter, the old man isn't nothing but a W.

Vs. Gun Jack
If you attack Gun Jack from the get-go and don't let up, sometimes Gun Jack won't be able to do anything. Other times he picks up the little orange guy and throws him into next week. Launch fire from the outside and don't let up when in close.

Vs. Lei
The only way for Gon to defeat Lei is by using all of the techniques. Attack from a distance with fire and rushing attacks, sidestep when Lei attacks, then immediately counter with a fierce combo.

Vs. Ling
Ling is a tough opponent for Gon. Her height is just about the perfect dinosaur-killing height. Use a lot of special moves against her.

Vs. Paul
You should always fight Paul defensively since his attacks are so fast and damaging. Block Paul's attacks, then simply throw him.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Yoshimitsu's low spinning attacks cause Gon nothing but grief. The only options Gon really has against Yosh when in close is to land first and then get away or to throw him. This fight is best fought from a distance, using fire attacks, at least for Gon's sake.

Vs. Kuma
This fight is fairly simple. Smother the big slow bear with a close-up barrage of quick punches and kicks.

DOCTOR BOSKONOVICH
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

The elderly scientist Doctor Boskonovich once saved space ninja Yoshimitsu's life. He asks Yoshimitsu to enter the tournament, kill Ogre, and give his blood to the scientist so that the scientist can use it to resurrect his long-dead daughter. But he doesn't sit idle. Instead, he dons an exoskeleton and joins the tournament as well.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Doctor Boskonovich seems to be Tekken 3's comedy relief. He can't stand up very well (he can walk forward all day, but if he steps backward, he has to immediately step forward to gain his balance, or he will fall), and he constantly plugs himself with electricity for some weird reason. He has several characters' moves, and he doesn't jump.

OFFENSIVE STRATEGY
You'll probably have to play this guy like Lei, seeing as how moving backward too much lands you on your butt. When he's playing dead, however, he is not useless. He has quite a few get-up attacks as well as Lei, Law, and Yoshi-type kicking combos. Among his other moves is Yoshi's unblockable, but now it is performed by holding B + (LP + RP), and when it hits, the opponent is electrified until Doctor B hits him again. Overall, you can either play defensive or offensive since he can avoid most attacks and has a good array of put-down moves to boot.

DEFENSIVE STRATEGY
Defense is not so simple. The best way is to play offensively with all of his various combos. He doesn't have any reversals, so you'll have to use some of his more powerful punches and kicks as counters.

VS. STRATEGY

Vs. Law
Stay on the ground as much as possible. Law will tear Dr. B apart if you stand up. The only hope for victory is to roll in and attack, then roll away (stick and roll, stick and roll).

Vs. Eddy
When fighting against Eddy it's best to stay on your back for most of the fight. Simply kick from the ground to wear Eddy's health down.

Vs. Gon
You have to stand up for this fight. Gon has too many low attacks to be on the ground. Repeated low kicks work well against the little prehistoric cutie.

Vs. Julia
This is not an easy fight to win for Dr. B. Julia has the jumping ground stomp and basic attacks that are nothing but trouble for Dr. B when he's on the ground. Work the angles, sidestep Julia's attacks, then strike.

Vs. Bryan
Even though Bryan is one of the strongest characters in the game, his lack of quality ground attacks leave a blind spot for Dr. B. to attack from. Attack Bryan, then roll out of range before he lands a low kick, then during his kick, quickly roll in for another attack.

Vs. Gun Jack
Gun Jack has many moves that are effective against a downed opponent. But since he is slow to recover from an attack, it's imperative that you mix up standing attacks with ground attacks. Land a few quick blows from a standing position, then quickly drop to the ground and continue the barrage.

Vs. Lei
Unfortunately, Lei poses a big problem for Dr. B. players. His ground fighting skills are extremely effective against Dr. B. The only chance for the good Dr. is to really mix it up. Work the angles and fight from the ground and from a standing position.

Vs. Paul
The best plan for Dr. B. in this matchup is to try to not catch a death fist in the stomach. The way to do that is by working from the ground and using the spin-doctor move to get angles. If playing against an inexperienced player or on a low difficulty you can just attack from the ground since Paul only has a couple effective ground attacks.

Vs. Jin
Jin has the tsunami kick that will destroy a Dr. B. player who stays on the ground. Only a crafty player who can spin out of harm's way, then immediately counter, can ever hope to defeat the son of Kazuya.

Vs. Hwoarang
Dr. B can actually win this match if he stays on the ground. Roll in, and just when Hwoarang is about to kick, roll away, and then roll back in and counter.

OGRE
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

The mythical God of Fighting himself, Ogre uses moves specific to several missing Tekken 2 fighters (Jun and Lee, for example), besides sucking energy from opponents when they're down.

GENERAL STRATEGY
Ogre is just incredible. He is basically a hybrid of the Tekken 2 time-released bosses. He is very fast and has good evasion capabilities, but doesn't have any ten-strings.

OFFENSIVE RANGE
Even "Small Ogre" is pretty big and, therefore, up close he'll just get his butt kicked trying to attack. His best range is mid to right-at-sweep range. Ogre needs a little room to breathe to get his moves off.

DEFENSIVE STRATEGY
Ogre was made to kick ass, not block. Therefore, he has few defensive moves. He does have Kazuya's heavy body blow and Lee's blazing kick, both of which can be used for counters.

VS. STRATEGY

Vs. Law
The god of fight has two things going for him in this matchup: speed and power. Only use his quick strong combos and moves against Law. Some of Ogre's moves are powerful but slow. Avoid using these moves against Law - he's just too fast.

Vs. Hwoarang
This fight is a tough one for Ogre. The best strategy against our tae kwon do friend is to move in real close using short, quick punches. Don't be in the middle range - all that will come of it is a boot to the skull.

Vs. Eddy
Ogre should keep his distance from Eddy and wait for an opening. When the opportunity comes, dash in with a lunging front kick. The keys for victory in this bout are patience and timing.

Vs. True Ogre
The best advice for this battle is to watch out for the fire! Besides that, keep it simple - fast punch combos when in close, then lunging front kicks from the outside.

Vs. Gon
Ogre has the crazy endless Baek kick combo from Tekken 2. Simply get that leg going and it's curtains for the orange dinosaur.

Vs. Julia
This is actually a really good matchup. The best thing for this match is to use short punch combos and do lots of throwing.

Vs. HeiHachi
It's go time! HeiHachi doesn't play - he has mad skills that will destroy the god of fight. If you want to win you really have to apply all that you've learned into this match - sidestep and countering, keeping opponents on the ground, and of course moving in and out of range.

Vs. Gun Jack
This epic battle between the big boys is actually quite boring. Just use simple punch combos and stay inside. Jack will try to get off a plethora of moves but will be unable to since you'll be breaking his concentration with a love tap every few seconds.

Vs. King
There can be only one, and that one will be decided easily if King multi-throws you. Just try to land punches and combos inside, then get out of range. Use heavy kicks from the outside.

Vs. Jin
Beating Jin is simple because his moves and combos are so complex. Once you've played for a while you'll recognize Jin's patterns. Even an experienced human player who knows how to play will usually execute the same series of moves and combos over and over again. Just watch for these, then step in and counter when you see your opening.

Vs. Ling
Miss Xiayou can be quite the adversary. From the beginning of the match, start and don't stop. Catch her off guard at the beginning of the match and keep her on the ground. Use Ogre's low kick combos.

Vs. Paul
You should always fight Paul defensively since his attacks are so fast and damaging. Block Paul's attacks, then simply throw him.

TRUE OGRE
CHARACTER STRATEGIES

As if Ogre weren't bad enough, True Ogre is a larger, stronger version of the beast who absorbed Heihachi (or in Heihachi's case, Jin Kazama) into himself after his first defeat.

GENERAL STRATEGY
True, Ogre's actually not as good as Ogre Prime . He's bigger, slower, and easier to hit. He does have fire-breathing capabilities, and he is stronger, but he's just not as good.

OFFENSIVE RANGE
Up close, Small Ogre is pretty useless. True Ogre is very useless. Just like Ogre, his best range is mid to far. If too far, all he can do is breathe fire, so stay in mid if possible.

DEFENSIVE STRATEGY
His right swing (enhanced in range for True Ogre), tail spins, and fire attacks are all good to counter with. If the opponents lie down a lot or try to get too close, burn them. If you are forced to fight too close, SS and throw.

VS. STRATEGY

Vs. Julia
Knock Julia to the ground with a quick three-punch barrage, then immediately take to the skies and light her up with some flames. Use these techniques along with the occasional charge, and you'll be set.

Vs. Bryan
This matchup is always a barn burner. Both fighters have quick powerful moves that can end the match at any moment. In this battle, the key to victory is to knock down Brian, then immediately give him a little touch-up with some flying fire action.

Vs. Anna
Anna can get a little crafty sometimes. But in this match all she should get is a little crispy. Fast short punching combos when in close and fire attacks from the outside are what will win this match.

Vs. King
There is no reason to ever be close to King; in fact, there is no excuse for being close to King. If you get too close to this wrestling animal, it's all over. He'll get a hold of you and throw you around like a rag doll. Stay away from King - use fire and rush attacks from a safe distance.

Vs. Lei
This match could go either way. If Lei is in a particularly energetic mood, it's all over. His high and low attacks are too much for the big and slow demon. However, the best tactic against this super cop is to start and don't stop. Catch him off guard at the match's outset with a quick combo sending him to the ground. Then shoot fire from the air to do some major damage.

Vs. Jin
Use a mix of fire from a distance and short-punch combos when in close. Jin will try to evade the fire attack but will get too close too late, leaving himself vulnerable to attack.

Vs. Ling
This young woman can be quite a handful if you let her. Try to establish the round immediately with a quick three-punch combo, followed by some fire breathing. If she avoids the punches by crouching down, back up and begin a barrage of low punches and kicks.

Vs. Paul
You should always fight Paul defensively since his attacks are so fast and damaging. Block Paul's attacks, then simply throw him.

Vs. Yoshimitsu
Yosh can be a little tricky sometimes. It's best to keep it simple when playing against him. Use short, fast combos, and strike when he's open. Watch for Yosh's spinning kick - if you duck it you can counter with a combo fairly easily.

Vs. Kuma
Against this big teddy bear, all you'll need are some fast, short combos.
