Welcome Authors Note : This is the 1st of 2 faqs for Sega Saturn Wipeout. so here goes....enjoy. WHO AM I? AND WHY DO I BOTHER? good question, well i'm rg, and i have written the complete and comprehensive Sega (c) Saturn Rally Faq,The 1-page, and the Arcade FAQ. I am an avid racing game fan, and have almost every racing type game out for the saturn, PC, and have played all the arcade sims too. I am currently doing these as part of a racing collection of FAQs. (besides i couldn't really find a good descriptive FAQ for Wipeout either!) Questions ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Q: What is it ? A: Sega Wipeout is a conversion of the first Playstation game Wipeout by Psygnosis. It's an unconventional racing game, that uses sleds that ride on air, and use all 3 dimensions in controlling them. Q: what are the types of sleds? A: There are 4 main types of sleds. Please refer to your manual for the the various data and statistics on them. Q: how many courses ? A: 6 main tracks each with 3 laps, repeated for the faster rapier class If you finish first on the championship mode, you get firestar as a permanent track (refer to the Full FAQ for more notes/maps/etc..) Q: views for sled? A: 1) the in the sled 2)above and behind view(highly recommended) Saturn only ----------- - 2 extra music tracks - supposedly easier handling/gameplay (unconfirmed) =============================================================================== 4. Course Guides ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: NOTES : 1) Whenever there's a split in the track, the numbers will correspond to the split so, 12a goes to 12b to 12c etc..13a goes to 13b to 13c and when 14 comes up, that is where they both merge. Each section is also partitioned and each area explicitly mentioned. eg.. MERGE 1 , SPLIT 1...etc. 2) I'm not going to say whether to use the power-ups or speed-ups or whatever, but I DO give my recommendations on which is the optimal path, and where to use the SUPER TURBO BOOSTS, at the end of the track description. For a general guide , refer to the full blown Sega Saturn(c) Wipeout Faq also available from the same site as above. 3) By the Way : THE TIME TRIAL NOTES AND LOCATIONS ARE GOOD FOR BOTH VENOM AND RAPIER CLASSES!!!!!! 4) Also : THE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE SIGNS AREN'T NECESSARILY THE SAME FOR RAPIER CLASS, AND THE LOCATION OF THE POWERUPS VARIES WITH LEVEL ALSO !! 5) It seems that all the powerups and boosts are the same for Venom and Rapier classes with possibly some small differences (still checking!). 6) The general strategy for all the tracks is the same, GO FULL SPEED ON ALL TURNS, UNLESS INDICATED IN THE NOTES, AND NEVER USE THE AIR BRAKES.
